Arizona MENTOR Launches New Day Program in Tuscon
11/19/2014
Arizona MENTOR is pleased to announce the opening of a new Day Program, Minds In Motion, serving individuals in the Tuscon area. Minds In Motion provides an array of enriching activities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ranging from cooking classes and gardening to volunteer projects. The program is structured to help participants grow and reach their personal goals through skill-building and participating actively in community life.
Minds In Motion participants choose activities that match their interests, helping them make friends and build skills. The wide range of activities available include music therapy, fine arts, cooking classes, learning activities and gardening. The program also provides habilitation services designed to increase independent living skills, including personal care and communication, orientation/mobility, self-advocacy and alternative behavioral strategies.
“Minds In Motion is an innovative approach to day services, offering supports tailored to each participant’s needs and interests. A strength of the program is its focus on helping participants build social and other skills that enhance their lives in the community and allow them to progress toward their full potential, all while engaging in activities they enjoy,” said Darrell Wright, Executive Director of Arizona MENTOR.
Minds In Motion offers many state-of-the-art amenities such as a full kitchen, space for arts and crafts, a visual/tactile sensory room, a game room and a backyard garden.
Arizona MENTOR’s Day Programs offer a full range of engaging activities and supportive therapy, with personalized services, including supports for elders and those with behavioral challenges, acquired brain injury or other complex needs.
